Information for Students Taking AP Tests

                                                                                                                    May 2024

Remember: It is essential to be in your assigned testing room by 7:15 a.m. for the morning test and by 12:00 p.m. for the afternoon test. Please note that time spent in actual testing is lengthened by mandatory breaks. In addition, some tests are longer than others.

POLICY FOR CLOSING THE EXAM ROOM/LATECOMERS

Once students have been admitted and seated, materials distributed, and the preliminary paperwork completed, the test proctor will announce the starting time for the exam and begin administering the exam.  Students cannot open the shrink-wrapped exam packets before the mandatory starting times.  The doors to the exam room will be closed promptly at the announced starting time.

No students may be admitted after the start of the examination unless unusual circumstances warrant it and the multiple-choice section has not been completed.

Take to the examination the following items:

1.     YOUR STUDENT PACK AND SCHOOL CODE

2.     Photo ID and social security number or Identification Sheet

3.     Several sharpened #2 pencils with erasers

4.     Black or dark blue ballpoint pens

5.     A watch THAT DOES NOT ALARM OR BEEP

6.     A graphing calculator is required for the Calculus AB, Calculus BC, and Statistics exams. A graphing calculator is allowed (and highly recommended) for the Chemistry and Physics B/C exams.  Laptops, pocket organizers, and calculators with QWERTY keyboards are not allowed.  Check with your teachers for a list of the approved calculators.  Schools have supplies of TI-83plus and TI-84plus graphing calculators that may be available for testing.  Some schools may also have supplies of the TI-Nspire or TI-Nspire CAS, which are also AP-approved graphing calculator models.  Calculators MAY NOT be shared with other students.  Calculator memories do not need to be cleared before or after the exam.

7.      Additional Calculator Batteries (most calculators require four-size AAA batteries)

Do not bring the following to the test site:

1.     Books, dictionaries, notes, compasses, scratch paper, correction fluid, and highlighters

2.     Food or drinks

3.     Beepers, cellular phones, Personal Data Assistants (PDAs), and cameras

  1. Clothing (t-shirts, for example) with subject-related information
  2. Watches with beepers or alarms and multipurpose MP3 players

General Reminders:

  1. Remember to handle early releases, late arrivals, and absences as required by your school.
  2. You are responsible for providing transportation to and from the exam.
  3. Remember to allow plenty of travel time in case of car trouble or other emergencies.
  4. Test administrators WILL START WITHOUT YOU, and you will not be admitted to the testing session if you are late.
  5. Review your Student Bulletin, especially the section concerning guessing.
  6. Remember that we are guests at the off-site testing facility.
