Lowell High School's AP Policy

The 2024 AP Exams will be administered in schools over two weeks in May: May 6–10 and May 13–17.

For the full 2024 AP Exam Schedule, please refer to this link: https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/exam-administration-ordering-scores/exam-dates

Please note: If you are scheduled for an afternoon exam, the exams will run past the school day. Please make arrangements to stay after school for afternoon exams.

If students have a reason they need to take the exam on an alternate day please email Ms. Magary at jmagary@lowell.k12.ma.us to go over your situation and reasoning for the request. This request needs to be put in before March 1st.  Depending on the situation, there may be an additional cost for moving to the alternative exam date. Each situation will be examined individually by College Board.

Please review the following Lowell High School AP exam policy from the LHS 2023-2024 student handbook: If a qualified student elects one or more advanced placement courses, it presupposes an agreement and commitment by the student to take the Advanced Placement Exams that are given annually in May. All AP students will be required to register and pay for their own AP Exam(s)... failure to meet the financial obligation and /or failure to take the Advanced Placement Exam shall result in the removal of the AP course designation from the student’s transcript. A student in good standing with extenuating circumstances can apply for consideration for a waiver of this requirement with medical documentation.

Students currently enrolled in any AP course(s) are required to take and pay for the corresponding AP exam(s). An AP exam is automatically ordered for the student when they enroll in their AP Classroom through the College Board. At this point, you have registered for your AP exam(s). If a student cancels an exam or does not show up for an exam, they may be charged a $40 cancellation fee. If a student adds an exam, the student may be charged a $40 late fee. The $40 cancellation / late / unused fee is the same for all students, regardless if they qualify for an AP exam fee reduction or not.

Please be aware of the AP exam policies and rules set forth by the College Board:

  • Students are required to wear their student ID at all times.
  • No students will be allowed admittance to exam rooms once exam has started.
  • Students who do not show up for their scheduled AP exam are not eligible for any refunds. Students will be resposible for any cancellation fees incurred.  If the College Board has any additional charges associated with not taking the exam such as restocking fees, you will be required to pay those fees.  Lowell High School will not cover those costs.  If a student has an extenuating circumstance we will work with them to understand the situation and together come up with a plan to move forward.
  • During the break between Sections 1 and 2 of your AP Exam, or during any other unscheduled breaks, you are not allowed to consult textbooks, notes, teachers, or other students; and you may not use any electronic or communication devices, like your cell phone, for any reason.
  • You may not leave the building at any time during the exam administration, including during a scheduled break.
  • Remember, whether it’s during breaks or after the exam, you must not communicate anything about the exam content to anyone, including your classmates and your teachers.

Before exam day:

  • Check with the school where the exam is being administered to find out what room the exam is being administered in.
  • Plan to arrive well before your exam’s scheduled starting time.
