What to Bring to the Exam Room

Bring No. 2 pencils for your multiple-choice answer sheet, pens with black or dark blue ink for completing areas on the exam booklet covers and for free-response questions in most exams, and your government-issued or school-issued photo I.D.

What Not to Bring to the Exam Room

You may not have any food or drink in the exam room, including bottled water. A complete listing of “What to Bring to the Exam Room” and “What NOT to Bring to the Exam Room” can be found in the Bulletin for AP Students and Parents.

Do not bring any unauthorized electronic devices, including but not limited to: smartphones, tablets or anything else that can access the internet, any cameras or other photographic equipment, or even any watches that beep or have an alarm (or smartwatches).

  • Unauthorized devices are NOT permitted in ANY testing room ANY time before, during, or after testing.  NO EXCEPTIONS!
  • Prior to each day of testing and testing sessions, students will be given a “declaration form” to read and sign.  This form is a written declaration that the student does not have an electronic device in the testing area or on his/person.
  • Prior to testing, parents, students, and staff will be notified of the Device Ban during testing and of the sanction for violation of the “Unauthorized Electronic Devices” policy and procedures.
  • Prior to testing, the Test Administrators will review the “Unauthorized Electronic Devices” policy, collect all electronic devices, warn of consequences for violating the policy, and have student review and sign the Unauthorized Use of Electronic Devices During Testing Student Sign Off Form.
  • If a student violates this policy, the Test Administrator will IMMEDIATELY report this violation to the School Test Coordinator (STC) who then IMMEDIATELY reports the violation to the District Test Coordinator (DTC) and School Administration.  Violators will not be released until approval from the School Administration.

Calculators

If you are allowed to use a calculator on your AP Exam, review the College Board’s calculator policies to make sure you bring an acceptable calculator for your particular exam.

Break

During the break between Sections I and II of your AP Exam, or during any other unscheduled breaks, you are not allowed to consult textbooks, notes, teachers or other students; and you may not use any electronic or communication devices, like your cell phone, for any reason. Also, you may not leave the building at any time during the exam administration, including during a scheduled break. Remember, whether it is during breaks or after the exam, you must not communicate anything to anyone, including your classmates and your teachers, about the multiple choice questions that appeared on your AP Exam.

Start/End Time

No Late Admission will be granted to any student once the AP administration begins. Students are not permitted to leave any AP exam early. If this occurs, the student’s test will not be scored, and there will be no opportunity for a make-up exam. Students taking both a morning and afternoon exam during the same day will have time for a short lunch/snack break. Please plan accordingly. Any student who is participating in an afterschool activity will not be permitted to leave the testing location early. Please discuss this with coaches/advisor prior to the day of the test.

Student Cheating/Class Disruption

In the event a student becomes disruptive or is caught cheating during testing, the examiner will take all testing materials from the student.  A proctor or hall monitor will take the student to the main office.  The student will not return to the testing room during that day’s testing.  The STC and principal will determine if the student will complete the remainder of the test sections in the same room or in a different test setting.  Test invalidation may also occur.

Discussing Exam Questions

Do not email, text, post, or in any other way circulate AP Exam information through any kind of social media, or your AP Exam score may be canceled and you could also be banned from taking future AP Exams. Also, you may talk about the free-response questions from the regularly scheduled exam two days after the exam and only if your particular free-response questions have been posted to the College Board website. The AP Exam is intended to be a fair assessment of your academic ability. Sharing exam information in any unauthorized way compromises the integrity of the exam for all AP students, and for the colleges and universities that grant credit or advanced placement for qualifying AP scores.

Drills / Emergency Procedures

There will be NO fire drills scheduled during the testing window.

In the event of a fire alarm, all occupants will need to leave the school building.  Test Administrators will note the time remaining and direct students to close their test booklets and answer folders immediately.  Test Administrators will collect student authorization tickets, scratch paper, and/or paper test booklets and answer folders. Students will be directed not to talk.  STC will notify the DTC of the situation.  Testing will not resume until an announcement is made by the STC.  If it is determined by the STC and DTC that testing may resume upon re-entry to the school, examiners will redistribute materials, paying close attention that each student has his/her assigned test booklet/answer folder.  Students will be given the amount of time that was remaining at the time of the alarm to complete the affected test part.

In the event that students are not permitted re-entry, the DTC will contact the CollegeBoard AP to make alternate testing arrangements.

Reporting Exam Day Problems

If you believe there is a problem while you are taking the exam (e.g., you aren’t given enough time for a section of the exam, or the directions you receive are incorrect), notify your AP coordinator immediately so that any necessary action can be taken as soon as possible. If that doesn’t resolve the situation, speak to your principal.

Reporting Ambiguous or Incorrect AP Exam Questions

AP Exam questions are developed and reviewed carefully by qualified education professionals. However, if you believe there is a problem with a question, print and complete the AP Exam Question Ambiguity and Error Form (.pdf/502 KB), and mail or fax it to AP Assessment Development no later than June 15th of the year you took the exam.

Do not discuss the question with your exam proctor or your teacher. If necessary, action will be taken before the scores are reported.

Inclement Weather

If there is a school closing or delayed opening on a testing day, testing will not occur on that day.

In the event that a testing day needs to be postponed, the DTC will contact the CollegeBoard AP to make alternate testing arrangements.
