REQUESTS FOR AP LATE TESTING

Under extreme and rare circumstances, it may be necessary for a student to take a late AP exam.  Please note that CCSD is not required to provide late testing, but will do so for legitimate reasons.  We advise students and families to look ahead at their calendars for events that may potentially conflict with the regularly scheduled AP exams such as weddings, graduations and other ceremonies.  The following reasons and fee structures are in place for late AP testing:

Late testing: no additional fee

A late-testing fee will not be charged for circumstances that are beyond the control of school officials and students. Here are some general examples:

  • Academic contest/event*
  • Athletic contest/event*
  • Conflict with IB or Cambridge exam
  • Conflict with nationally, province-, or state-mandated test
  • Disabilities accommodation issues
  • Emergency: bomb scare or fire alarm
  • Emergency: serious injury, illness, or family tragedy
  • High school graduation*
  • Language lab scheduling conflict
  • Religious holiday/observance
  • School closing: election, national holiday, or natural disaster
  • Strike/labor conflict
  • Student court appearance*
  • Two AP Exams on the same date and time

* Added for 2018-19.

Late testing: with fees**

An additional fee of $50 per exam will be charged for schools and students that have a choice between accepting the scheduled date and requesting an alternate date. The fee is used to partially defray costs of developing, scoring, and shipping these alternate exams. Here are some of those examples:

  • Conflict with non-AP, non-IB, or non-Cambridge exam
  • Family/personal commitment
  • Ordering error
  • Other school event
  • School closing (local decision, non-emergency)

STUDENTS WHO DO NOT SHOW UP FOR AN AP EXAM

Students who do not have an extreme emergency such as a hosptilization, family tragedy or other event out of their control will not be permitted to take a late exam and their AP designation on their transcript will be removed.  Please note that late testing is only reserved for extreme cases and CCHS is not required to provide late testing for students who do not meet criteria outlined by CollegeBoard.

Please be advised that we understand testing is overwhelming and you may feel like you need more time to study.  This is not a valid reason for requesting a late test and it will be denied.  Again, students are expected to show up for their AP exam on the regularly set date as established by CollegeBoard.
