Newport High School's AP Policy

Please be aware of the AP exam policies and rules set forth by this school and the College Board:

Times:

For all morning exams – arrive at the test location by 7:30 am

For afternoon exams – arrive at the test location by 12:30 pm

  • Once the actual exam has begun, students will not be admitted to the testing room.  All students will be dismissed from the testing room at the same time.  No student may leave early.
  • During scheduled or unscheduled breaks during exams, students are not allowed to consult textbooks, notes, or ask questions to teachers or other students. Do not use electronic or communication devices during breaks.
  • Do not leave the building during the exam.

You should bring the following items to the exam room:

  • AP Student Pack- The student packet will be given to you at the pre-administration session and you will need this packet at each exam.
  • A piece of photo ID such as a student ID card or driver’s license. Identification will be checked at each session.
  • Several sharpened No. 2 pencils (with erasers) for completing multiple-choice answer sheets
  • Pens with black or dark blue ink for completing areas on the exam booklet covers and for free-response questions in most exams
  • Up to two graphing calculators with the necessary capabilities if you are taking an AP Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, or Statistics Exam. For AP Biology a four-function (with square root) is allowed.   • A ruler or straightedge if you are taking an AP Physics Exam (Protractors are not allowed).

Test Security: you should not bring the following items to the exam room:

  • No backpacks will be allowed.
  • No food will be allowed. (Snacks during breaks, as always)
  • No beverages will be allowed except for a water bottle.
  • No cell phones, electronic equipment, or smart watches. They must be checked upon entry.

Attendance:

  • NHS will excuse your attendance from NHS classes for the duration of the exam time.
  • Students will not be dismissed until an exam has officially ended; do not ask to leave early if you finish before the end of the exam.
  • If you play a sport or have a job, it is your responsibility to inform your coach or employere of your AP exam obligation, and arrangements should be made accordingly.
