Pittsburg High School's AP Policy

Exam Location:

All exams will be held at the Boys and Girls Club at 1001 Stoneman Avenue in Pittsburg.

Exam Times:

If you are taking the school bus from the high school, please arrive at the front of the school by 6:45 am for morning exams and 10:45 am for afternoon exams. The buses will leave at 7:00 am and 11:00 am respectively.

If you are being dropped off at the Boys and Girls Club, please be there no later than 7:15 am for morning exams and 11:15 am for afternoon exams.

Tests for the AM session will begin at 7:30 am and for the PM session will begin at 11:30 am

You will be excused from your classes for the duration of the exam. Students will not be dismissed from the exam room until an exam has officially ended.  Do not ask to leave early if you finish before the end of the test, as your request will be denied.  If you play a sport or have a job, it is your responsibility to inform your coach or employer of your AP obligation and make arrangements accordingly.

Bring the following items to the exam:

  • Several sharpened No. 2 pencils with erasers (mechanical pencils are not allowed).
  • Pens with black or dark blue ink.
  • A watch that does not have Internet access, does not beep, and does not have an alarm.
  • Up to two calculators with the necessary capabilities if you’re taking an AP Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, or Statistics exam.  Visit apstudent.collegeboard.org/apcourse and click on the link for your course for the specific calculator policy.
  • A ruler or straightedge if you’re taking an AP Physics exam. (Protractors are not allowed.)

Do NOT bring the following items to the exam:

  • Any electronic equipment (cell phones, smartphones, smartwatches, tablet computers, MP3 players, cameras, etc.).
  • Books, compasses, mechanical pencils, correction fluid, dictionaries, highlighters, notes, or colored pencils.
  • Rulers, straightedges, and protractors (except as noted above).
  • Scratch paper (notes can be made on portions of the exam booklets).
  • Computers or calculators (except as noted above).
  • Reference guides, keyboard maps or other typing instructions.
  • Watches that beep or have an alarm, or smartwatches.
  • Food or drink, including water.
  • Clothing with subject-related information.

General Information:

Get a good night’s rest before your test. 

Breakfast, lunch, and a snack will be provided for you.

It is advisable to bring a sweater in case the room temperature is below your comfort level.  You may want to dress in layers in case it gets warm in the exam room.

You are required to abide by the policies of both the College Board and Pittsburg High School during the exam period.  Any misconduct will be reported and could jeopardize your AP exam score. 

Reminder of New Policy:  If you do not take an exam that you have signed up for, you will be charged the $15.00 unused exam fee.  If you cannot pay the $15.00 fee, you will be assigned community service hours.  If you have an approved reason (serious injury, illness, or family tragedy; academic/athletic contest or event; family/personal commitment), for missing the exam, you must contact Ms. Bascomb immediately (925-381-4430 or pbascomb@pittsburg.k12.ca.us) and you will be given the opportunity to take the late exam without having to pay an additional fee.
