Shaker Heights High School's AP Policy

Policies and Procedures for Advanced Placement (AP) testing for the 2019 - 2020 school year

Shaker Heights Schools AP Policy

  • To receive AP credit on a Shaker Heights High School transcript, the student must take the AP exam.

  • This requirement applies to students taking AP courses online, as well as in person.

AP Exam Procedures & Payments

  • Exam payments will be accepted at www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/361395.

  • Be careful of these common errors:

    • Economics - each semester course has its own AP exam

    • English Language & Composition vs. English Literature & Composition

  • 2019-2020 College Board Payment Schedule

October 11 - 31:  Fee per exam is $97.

November 1 - 7:  Fee per exam is $110 (includes a $13 late fee per exam).

November 8 - March 6:  Fee per exam is $150 (includes additional $40 late fee per exam).

  • Refund Schedule

    • Full year or first semester classes

      • Cancel on or before November 7 to receive a full refund less any late fees.

      • Cancel after November 7 to receive $57.

    • Second semester classes
      • Cancel on or before March 6 to receive a full refund less any late fees.

      • Cancel after March 6 to receive $57.

  • Financial assistance and payment plans are available.

    • Students who receive free or reduced lunch should indicate so on Total Registration.  You will receive an email confirming your fee waiver.

    • Students who do not qualify for free or reduced lunch and need financial assistance, or a payment plan, should see Mrs. Steenbergh in the main office.  Deadlines still apply. See Mrs. Steenbergh as soon as possible, if needed.

    • Fee waivers do not cover late fees or cancellation fees.  If a student with a fee waiver does not show up for an exam, the College Board cancellation fee of $40 will be added to the student’s Shaker fees.

New Classroom Resources

  • AP Question Bank:  Teachers can use this library of actual AP exam questions to create in-class or homework practice assignments.

  • Personal Progress Checks:  Teachers can assign these questions to measure progress throughout the course. Feedback is available.  Students can see areas in which they need to focus their practice.

Conflicts between AP and IB exams

  • Students enrolled in IB courses should enter those courses in Total Registration.  Conflicts will be identified by Total Registration.

  • For students who have a conflict:

    • The IB exam must be written on the day it is scheduled.

    • The AP exam will be postponed.

The AP and IB exam schedules are posted on Shaker.org.  Please contact your student’s AP teacher with any questions about AP exams.  For questions about fees, please contact Marian Steenbergh.
