Newton South High School's AP Exam Policy

Please be aware of the AP exam policies and rules set forth by the College Board and Newton South High School:

  • No students will be allowed admittance to exam rooms once the AP exam has started.

  • Electronic equipment of any kind (except approved devices being used for the exam) are strictly prohibited. If we find electronic equipment it will be reported to the College Board and will result in your AP exam score being canceled.

  • During scheduled or unscheduled breaks during exams, students are not allowed to consult textbooks, notes, or ask questions to teachers or other students. 

  • Students are not allowed to leave the testing area during the exam.

  • If a student is suspected of violating any policy or rule during an AP Exam an Incident Report will be filled out by the AP Exam Coordinator and submitted to the College Board. The College Board will then decide if any disciplinary action will be taken, including AP exam score cancellation.

WHAT TO BRING TO THE EXAM ROOM:

  • Several sharpened No. 2 Pencils with erasers (not mechanical pencils) & Pens (dark blue or black ink only)

  • A fully charged device and its charger (and/or portable charger). Students must have the Bluebook app already downloaded on their device and should have practiced logging in before exam day. (This applies to Digital/Hybrid exams only.)

  • Write down your College Board email and password to log into Bluebook (passwords will not be saved on your testing device).

  • Calculator and back-up batteries (for Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Economics, Physics, Statistics)- be sure yours meets the requirements. No calculators or back up batteries will be provided.

  • A ruler - for Physics tests that allow a ruler. No protractors allowed.

  • Photo ID- we will check your ID if you are not a student at Newton South. 

  • Water/small snack (snacks can only be eaten during the scheduled break and should be left under desk during testing).

  • Bag lunch - if you have two exams in the same day, or if you have a morning extended time test. 

WHAT NOT TO BRING TO THE EXAM ROOM:

READ THIS LIST CAREFULLY… 

  • Backpack/Large Bag - Bring only what's necessary (don't bring things for classes you won't be attending). You will not be allowed to access your bag during the test OR break.

  • Test Prep Books/Class Notes/Textbooks/etc - These can not enter the test room at all. Leave them home.

  • Airpods, headphones, Apple watches. If you are found to have these on you during the exam the College Board WILL cancel your score. 

  • Electronic equipment of any kind (except approved devices being used for the exam). Prohibited electronic equipment includes: wearable technology of any kind, smart glasses, smartwatches, phones, laptops, tablet computers, electronic writing instruments, unauthorized Bluetooth devices, portable listening or recording devices, cameras or other photographic equipment, devices that can access the internet, separate timers of any type, and any other electronic or communication devices.

  • The official College Board policy is no phones in the testing room. Any cell phones, etc. that make it to the testing room will be turned off, collected and returned to you after all exams have been collected. If you don't want us to take it, don't bring it at all.

  • Mechanical Pencils

  • Anything that makes noise

  • Anything that covers your head (hoodie, hat)
