Gateway College Preparatory School's AP Policy

Dear Student:

You will be taking your AP Exam(s) soon.

You are required to arrive no later than 15 - 30 minutes prior to your exam: 7:45 a.m. for the morning administration and 11:45 a.m. for the afternoon administration.  Once the testing coordinator starts the testing session no other students will be admitted.  Students may not be dismissed until an exam has officially ended; do not ask to leave early if you finish before the end of the exam.  If you play a sport or have a job, it is your responsibility to inform your coach or employer of your AP Exam obligation, and arrangements should be made accordingly

You should bring the following items to the exam room:

  • Several sharpened No. 2 pencils (with erasers) for completing multiple-choice answer sheets.
  • Pens with black ink for completing areas on the exam booklet covers and for free-response questions in most exams.
  • A watch (in case your exam room clock is not easily visible from your seat).
  • Up to two calculators with the necessary capabilities if you are taking a Calculus Exam. (Visit www.collegeboard.com/ap/calculators to learn more about the calculator policy for the Calculus exams, and for a list of authorized calculators.)
  • A government-issued or school-issued photo ID if you do not attend the school where you are taking the exam.
  • Your AP number card given to you at Pre-Administration.
  • Your social security number* for identification purposes (optional). If you provide it, the number will appear on your AP score reports.
  • If applicable, your SSD Student Accommodation Letter, which verifies that you have been approved for extended time or another testing accommodation.

*Some colleges and universities use Social Security numbers as student identifiers when assigning AP credit or advanced placement for qualifying AP scores. While the College Board does not require students to provide their Social Security number, they may want to check with the college or university where they are sending scores to see if they prefer for students to provide a Social Security number on their AP Exam answer sheet.

You should not bring the following to the exam room:

  • Electronic equipment: (cell phone, smart phone, tablet computer, etc.), portable listening or recording devices (MP3 player, iPod, etc.), cameras or other photographic equipment, devices that can access the Internet, and any other electronic or communication devices.
  • Unapproved aids: Books, compasses, mechanical pencils, correction fluid, dictionaries, highlighters*, notes or colored pencils*
  • Rulers, straightedges, and protractors (except as noted above).*
  • Scratch paper; notes can be made on portions of the exam booklets or, for Chinese Language and Culture and Japanese Language and Culture, on scratch paper provided by the proctor.
  • Computers* or calculators (except as noted above).
  • Reference guides, keyboard maps, or other typing instructions.
  • Watches that beep or have an alarm
  • Clothing with subject-related information
  • Food or drink* will not be allowed near testing documents. If you bring a snack or water you may be allowed to have these items during your 10 minute break outside the testing room or in the front, away from testing materials.  No snack or drinks* that are messy or have the potential to leave a stain on testing materials can be in the testing room, i.e., soft drinks, cheetos, etc..

* Unless this has been preapproved as an accommodation by the College Board Services for Students with Disabilities office prior to the test date.

Online Score Reports for Students: Avoiding Delays in Accessing Scores
Scores will be available to students online at apscore.org in July. In order to access and send their scores as well as avoid any score reporting delays, students must:
  • Enter identifying information (particularly name, date of birth, sex, mailing address, and email address) carefully and consistently on AP answer sheets, and make sure that information is also consistent with their College Board account.
  • Create a College Board account (students may already have an account if they accessed AP Exam scores online last year, registered for the SAT®, or participated in other College Board programs).
  • Provide their AP number or student identifier (if they entered one on their answer sheet) when accessing their scores at apscore.org.
  • Important: Students should use the same information on their College Board account and their AP answer sheet(s). Mismatched names, dates of birth, email addresses, and other incomplete/inconsistent information can delay access to scores.

Get a good night’s rest before your exam, and eat a nutritious breakfast. You are allowed to bring a snack and beverage for your 10-minute break. However, food and drink are prohibited in the exam room. It is advisable to bring a sweater, in case the room temperature is below your comfort level.

You are required to abide by the policies of both the College Board and Gateway College Preparatory High School during the exam period. Any misconduct will be reported and could jeopardize your AP Exam score. If you decide not to take an exam, please inform me as soon as possible prior to the test administration.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, feel free to contact me. Good luck!
